Current Practice
Since 2001 Mr. Solak has continued his practice, with a primary focus on trial and appeal work in the areas of motor vehicle law, DUI/DWI, traffic offenses, criminal defense, vehicle accidents, and related civil cases. Due to his past experience and training, he is a lawyer involved in many cases involving matters of scientific evidence and forensic issues.
Attorney Solak ordinarily handles cases in the Northern Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, from Winchester north to Martinsburg, West Virginia, east to Leesburg, south to Harrisonburg, and west to Romney, West Virginia, but he is also available for consultation on cases in other areas throughout Virginia, West Virginia, and Maryland.
Mr. Solak has received training in Gas Chromatography, Forensic Chromatography, High Performance Liquid Chromatography, Forensic Drug Analysis and Mass Spectrometry. He is a member of the American Chemical Society, American Association for Clinical Chemistry, and the American Society for Mass Spectrometry.
He has received a certificate of proficiency for his participation in the Intoximeter EC/IRII Operators Training Course. The ECIRII is the breath test instrument presently used by the Commonwealth of Virginia for DWI investigations.
Most recently, Attorney Solak was invited to attend a 5-day conference on Forensic Science Error Management presented by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) at Crystal City, Virginia. Presenters, panels and instructors addressed ways to detect, measure and mitigate forensic science errors in death investigations, arson,and drug cases, criminalistics, digital evidence, quality assurance and laboratory management.
Today the defense of criminal, DWI, and traffic offenses frequently involves many issues and questions of forensic science. To appropriately address such forensic science issues, Attorney Solak has devoted substantial study of key areas of forensic science. Mr. Solak has received laboratory training in Gas Chromatography, Forensic Chromatography and Spectroscopy, High Performance Liquid Chromatography, and Mass Spectrometry.
Offices
Mr. Solak has previously held offices in the Warren County Bar Association, and he served as President of the Clarke County Bar Association from 1992-1997.
